It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas . . .
The Elves Have Been Busy at Santa's Workshop!
I bought this fabric from Home-Sew Inc. (http://www.homesew.com/) because I couldn't resist the little paper dolls!
Who doesn't love pinafores? This pops right on over the mini dress. It's made of the whitest Kona cotton.
I found black and red stretch fabric at Joann's that matches perfectly for the leggings.
It's not even October yet but it's not too early to start a Christmas Collection. This is the third dress I have made, but I'm looking for more ideas. There are a few on my Pinterest Board (http://www.pinterest.com/mjanddj/american-girl-christmas/). If you have time please take a peek. I'd love to have some suggestions!

I Made a Liberty Jane Dress Form!
A New Dress Form to Fit 18" Dolls
Here is my version of Liberty Jane's dress form pattern. I made it to display my doll dresses because I only have one American Girl doll. I've been hinting around but Kit may have to be an only child.
The fabric is silver silk Dupioni and I added a permanent skirt. I gathered the skirt, basted it on the form and then hot-glued it.
I used a heavy ceramic pillar candlestick for the base. It took me a while to find a suitable one - I tried Walmart, Salvation Army thrift store, the Dollar Store, but finally found this at a discount store for $5.00. I thought it would be way easier to find a candlestick!
There is a thick transparent glass bead glued to the top to make it look official. I bought a bag of aquarium glass at the dollar store, and it worked! Again, glued on tight.
I read reviews of this dress form and some folks seemed to have problems with it being too limp. When I made this I wanted strong seams so I interlined the silk with muslin and sewed twice. Then I really packed it with fiber fill, and I mean a lot! I could have stuffed a couch before I was done - practically a whole bag. But it was well worth it as you can see, very sturdy.
Doll Clothes slip on and off easily and fit perfectly.

Liberty Jane Clothing Gymnastic Outfit
She'll Receive Lots of Compliments at the Gym!

Jewell Star Doll Clothes version of Liberty Jane!
Plenty of shine and fits like a glove!
Here is my first gymnastic offering, and I think it's very cute. Made of silver lycra and purple micro-fleece it is just begging me for a matching warm-up suit.
The Liberty Jane pattern was a snap to work with, although I did make one change in the pattern. Here is a tip - I added elastic to the waistband. My test piece made according to the instructions just didn't fit perfectly. The waist seemed a little low on the bum and loose, not too smooth. So I added a quarter inch to the top of the shorts pattern, made a casing for 1/4" elastic and sewed. I got the fit I wanted and now I am a happy camper!
Kit is having a fitting for her next gymnastics outfit. Here she is with her hair messed up on my equally messy sewing table. I don't think I combed my hair either. Her shorts are finished and she is waiting for me to quit fooling around on the internet and do something.

American Girl Ballerina
Silver Dancer
It's time to start thinking about dance and gymnastics. I did a bit of shopping today and came home with some awesome fabrics; black stretch velvet, pumpkin orange crushed velvet, glitter midnight blue stretch and more. I'm dreaming about leotards, tutus, gym costumes and warm-up suits.
Yes, all that great material gets sucked right down into my sewing machines' feed-plate, ha ha. But, I have conquered my fear! I find it does help to chain piece, just keep stitching without too much starting and stopping. Also, I begin about a quarter inch down from the first seam to prevent that slippery stuff from jamming. All it takes is practice.

A 60 something learns to knit
Woo Hoo, I made a hat! What I go through for this girl! Thank you to my sister-in-law Nadine, a fabulous knitter, for the lesson.
I, on the other hand, am hopeless with knitting needles. That is why I'm giving myself a big pat on the back for finishing this little hat. I am so proud of myself.
Should I actually attempt a scarf, or should I quit while I am ahead?

A Trendy Gown
Over-the-top gorgeous in shiny silver animal print.
This gown has a wide sequin waistband that glitters!
Puffy purple tulle sleeves with a ribbon cascade in the back make this a perfectly trendy party outfit. A full attached tulle underskirt peeks out from the hem.
I have a stash of rainbow colored fabric in taffeta and satins - so pretty just to look at and dream about the next creation. When I make gowns I feel like Cinderella's dressmaker. I never know exactly what they will look like when I start sewing because I add details as my imagination strikes me!

A cape is fashionable in all seasons!
I sewed this with a soft magenta faux suede because it has a beautiful drape. It is lined with raspberry satin and fastens with a self-tie under the chin. For the pattern I used Samantha's Pretty Clothes free pattern that you can download here http://www.agplaythings.com/ag%20patterns/dolldresspatterns.html. I liked the scalloped collar but I also added a hood to the pattern.
Today was Senior Discount day at Joann Fabrics - oh, boy! I picked up some forest green fleece and some Christmas red fleece. More capes coming up for the holidays. Stay tuned ....
